AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity: a practice manager's comparison
A Palm Beach plastic surgery practice can compare how different tools describe it without treating any answer as a permanent ranking. Start with the sources, then check the facts.

Ask what kind of answer you are seeing
Google's AI features operate within Search. ChatGPT may answer from its trained model or use live search, depending on the interaction. Perplexity commonly presents source links with its answer. Those differences matter when you investigate an outdated address or a missing service.
Updating a website does not rewrite a model's earlier training. It can make current information available to systems that retrieve the web. Even then, neither discovery nor citation is guaranteed. Do not turn one screenshot into a claim that your practice has won or lost a market.
Compare one question across tools
Choose a realistic non-clinical discovery question, such as finding a consultation in Palm Beach. Use the same wording in each tool. Record the date, approximate location, device, account state and whether live sources were shown. Repeat the check and preserve the variation, including answers that omit the practice.
For each response, record three different observations: whether the practice is named, whether its website is linked, and whether its description is accurate. A mention without a link and a citation without a recommendation are different outcomes. Neither proves that a patient contacted you.
Follow the evidence to the right owner
If an answer cites an old directory address, correct that listing through your normal process. If the website itself is vague, clarify the page. If a statement about a surgeon's qualifications cannot be verified, send it to the practice's credential owner before republishing it. Keep a change log so future comparisons have context.
Provider biographies should name real credentials precisely and link to appropriate official verification where available. Any content about safety, suitability, procedures or recovery requires licensed-clinician authorship or approval. Marketing staff should not turn an AI answer into patient instructions.
Use the comparison to prioritize
A useful output is a short queue: incorrect facts to fix, genuine patient questions to answer, and unsupported claims to remove. Build helpful procedure and consultation pages with clear human ownership. Do not fabricate coverage, affiliations, testimonials or reviewer names.
Google does not require special AI markup. Accurate, readable content is the foundation; these checks help you maintain it. If travel or seasonal consultation logistics matter to your own patients, explain the administrative process, while leaving individual clinical travel and recovery advice with the surgeon.
